A man from Redditch has been given a suspended jail sentence for inflicting "grievous bodily harm" upon his partner, Herefordshire-news.co.uk has reported.
32-year-old Craig Mark Lostitch attacked his partner on New Year's Day 2011. After punching her, the victim was left with a fractured cheekbone that required surgery.
According to the Redditch Advertiser, Lostitch admitted to causing her harm at Worcester Crown Court last Tuesday and as a result, was given a prison sentence of nine months - suspended for 18 months.
He will also have to attend workshops about domestic abuse, undertake 200 hours of community work (unpaid) and be under supervision for 12 months.
He is sadly just one of the many thousands of people who are violent towards their partners every year in Britain. Although many victims are too scared to come forward, some - like Lostitch's victim - are, protecting themselves by taking out domestic abuse orders from London solicitors or those based in other areas throughout the UK.
The policewoman investigating this particular case, detective constable Laura Wright, stated that it was an "alcohol-fuelled" incident - as many are. She added: "This was...the saddest possible start to the year for the victim. Lostitch initially showed no remorse over what was a vicious attack resulting in serious injury.
"He now has the shadow of a jail sentence hanging over him and will go to prison if he commits any further offences of this nature. Domestic violence and abuse cannot be tolerated in a civilised society."
