PC David Rathband and wife Kath to divorce

PC David Rathband, the police officer who was blinded after being shot by Raoul Moat, has announced his marriage has come to an end and will soon be looking for divorce solicitors.

PC Rathband was catapulted into the public eye after being shot twice in the face by gunman Moat, during his murderous rampage in June of last year. Despite surviving the attack, PC Rathband's injuries left him totally blind.

Since the shooting, however, PC Rathband has hit the headlines for other reasons, most notably after he was arrested by colleagues from Northumberland Police after a reported domestic incident.

The marriage has since come under scrutiny, notably when the couple announced they were trying counselling to bring it back from the brink. This, however, appears to have not worked, with PC Rathband taking to Twitter to break the news.

"Sad to announce that Mrs R has called time on our marriage; separation permanent." PC Rathband tweeted, although his wife has argued that his version of events may be inaccurate.

Also taking to Twitter, dailymail.co.uk reported Kath Rathband as tweeting: "Slight inaccuracy in the tweet by @pcdavidrathband - He left us and refuses to come home - #thetruthwillout."

Since the incident, PC Rathband has set up a charity for servicemen injured in the line of duty and wrote an autobiography, in which he claimed that he now lived for his wife and children.
