Sinead O'Connor and husband split after 16 days

Sinead O'Connor has announced she is to split from husband, Barry Herridge after just 16 days, The Telegraph reports.

The singer's fourth wedding took place in Las Vegas - a 'drive-thru' ceremony in a pink Cadillac - on 8 December. However, their marriage lasted less than three weeks, with the couple living together for just seven days. They separated on Christmas Eve.

While the pair where only married for a short while, complex Irish separation legislation mean that it could take many years for the marriage to be fully dissolved, necessitating the skills of divorce solicitors who are versed in Irish law.

Clearly crestfallen, O'Connor posted a message on her website, after learning that the story might otherwise be leaked. She claimed that "intense pressure" was put on Herridge by people who did not want him to be involved with her.

"Within three hours of the ceremony being over the marriage was kyboshed by the behaviour of certain people in my husband's life," it read, according to The Mail Online.

She also added: "He is a wonderful man. I love him very much. I'm sorry I'm not a more regular woman... He has been terribly unhappy and I have therefore ended the marriage."

O'Connor met Herridge via her search for love through microblogging service Twitter - he was the only man of thousands of responses she went on to date.
