Coldplay singer Chris Martin and Hollywood superstar Gwyneth Paltrow have shocked the showbiz world by announcing their intention to separate.
In a blog post published on goop.com, Ms Paltrow, 41, said she and her husband, 37, have decided to part ways after over ten years of marriage. During a particularly revealing entry, Ms Paltrow claimed they had spent the last year attempting to fix their relationship in a bid to "see what might have been possible".
However, despite claiming they both "love each other very much" and insisting they will always be a family, the actress said that "with hearts full of sadness" they have decided to split.
The couple have two children together - Apple, aged nine, and Moses, aged seven - who Ms Paltrow says will be 'co-parented' while the pair remain apart, bbc.co.uk reports.
She has also requested that members of the press respect her family's space and privacy during what's expected to be a difficult time.
Ms Paltrow rose to fame in 1998 for her Oscar-winning appearance in 'Shakespeare in Love'. She met her future husband after seeing Mr Martin play a gig with Coldplay in October 2002, and the pair announced their marriage in December 2003.
Apple was born soon after and the continued success of Coldplay resulted in Ms Paltrow and Mr Martin becoming one of the most famous celebrity couples.
