Over a third of Brits would sign a prenup

New research has revealed that the country is split on the subject of signing a prenuptual agreement, silversurfertoday.co.uk writes.

One of the most arduous tasks assigned to divorce solicitors is the division of assets between separating spouses. The concept of the prenuptual agreement must have therefore come as quite the relief. Yet according to a study by YouGov, opinion remains opposed.

If their other half asked them to sign such an agreement prior to getting married, 35 per cent of British people said they would agree, while 36 per cent said they would not. The remaining 29 per cent were unsure.

Of all the age groups polled, it was the 25-39 year olds that would be most inclined to sign, though this only totalled 40 per cent. Those aged 60 years plus were the least inclined, with 42 per cent refusing to sign a prenup at their fiancee's request.

Regionally, Londoners claimed to be most accepting - 38 per cent of those living in the captial would sign on the dotted line, according to yougov.co.uk. This was followed by those based in the South, with 37 per cent, Wales with 36 per cent and the North with 32 per cent.

Scottish people, meanwhile are less convinced about prenuptual agreements; just a quarter of respondents north of the border said they would agree to one.
